Donna Compton’s photographic art spans four decades, beginning in a commercial darkroom and continuing in the digital studio where she prints her own collections. Ten years spent in the music recording industry in San Francisco both refined and broadened her perceptions, leading to a parallel experience as a gallerist and art dealer in New Jersey since 2004. She continues photographing while curating other artists’ exhibits of paintings, sculptures, fine art prints and, of course, photographs.

All four pieces by Compton are photographs of the burned inside bottom of a cooking pot used to boil tea, with the residue of chemicals. The image is then colorized, and illustrates how the heat in the cylindrical pots reacts with minerals left while heating tea water, sometimes with milk, other times with brewed tea, and sometimes just plain water. She then interprets the digital images, using color to bring to life the original sepia tones.
