Thomas Carlson is a Jersey City based artist who founded the Jersey City Art School in 2009, and The 313 Gallery, Jersey City, in 2013. His current body of work features world leaders hitting a hole in one, a series that explores the irony in a seemingly impossible and joyous feat in the sport of golf, amidst the crossfire of global conflict. Through their exaggerated and comical reactions, the absurdity of the political world is highlighted and the priorities and values of those in power are questioned.

“By placing them in a traditionally leisurely and privileged setting, I invite the viewer to consider the consequences and impact of their actions on the world stage.” – Thomas Carlson

Carlson has curated several shows in Jersey City and the Eden Rock Gallery in St. Barthélemy, where he has spent 7 months of artist residencies. Thomas Carlson obtained his Bachelor of Fine Arts from Ringling College of Art and Design in 2004. He received a Masters in Fine Art from the New York Academy of Art in 2006 where he also completed a fellowship in 2007.
