Residency for an artist with a disability
Part of the mission of Art Fair 14C is to expand opportunities for artists, and we are encouraging more disability informed and centered arts by having a disability specific residency.
Art Fair 14C recognizes that disabilities can come in many forms and are not always physical and not always visible. They can include people with mental illness, chronic diseases, chronic pain, autism and learning disabilities.
In 2021, Art Fair 14C is proud to support Danielle Scott with the residency for an artist with a disability.
access. equity. opportunity.
Art Fair 14C is pleased to offer an annual 6-month residency at Art 150 to an artist with a disability.
The residency will run from January 1st through June 30th each year. The chosen artist will have access to a 400 sq ft artist’s studio at Art 150 in Jersey City, NJ.
The residency does NOT include housing, transportation or meals, so applicants must either have or provide their own housing in or near Jersey City. Art 150 is located at 150 Bay Street in downtown Jersey City, two blocks from the Grove Street PATH station.
The artist will receive a stipend of up to $1000 for art supplies and will be given the opportunity to exhibit their work at Art 150 and at Art Fair 14C.
The resident artist will receive peer support from other artists with a disability, as well as consultations and mentorship from the directors of Art Fair14C and other relevant arts professionals, providing critical conversation around artwork as well as guidance on development and ideation.
To be eligible for this residency, artists must be at least 18 years old, must work in the visual arts, must have a disability, and must be able to provide their own transportation to Art 150.
There is no fee to apply.
The application for 2022 will be posted in fall 2021
