Gail M Boykewich
Jersey City NJ
Gail M Boykewich studied painting, sculpture and fiber arts at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she developed an interest in traditional portraiture, folk art, and magical realism. Her themes have been described as whimsical, tender, melancholic and sometimes humorous.
Gail’s meticulously detailed and brightly colored works are driven by her love of flora and fauna, and the importance of human symbiosis. She strives to highlight the beauty of the natural world and the significance of environmental conservation using fictitious characters and unique plants and animals. These elements act as symbols that can provide protection and represent emotions like serenity, vulnerability, or rage.
She has shown her work in Chicago, Los Angeles, Houston, Minneapolis, Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Jersey City. Some recent achievements include the 2023 Liquitex “Just Imagine” Residency, The Governors Island Art Fair in 2019 and the Superfine Art Fair, 2020, in Los Angeles.
