Q. What will be happening at the Gimme Shelter Stitch In?
Textile artists, quilters, tailors and others with the ability to sew, embroider, knit etc, will gather in the Main Terminal space at Liberty State Park on March 10th from 10am to 3pm and will create upcycled clothing, baby blankets, diaper bags, weatherized blankets and much more to benefit the people and communities served by York Street Project and PERC Shelter.
Q. I’m not a textile artist – can I learn how to help, and will anything else be happening?
Yes! There will be lessons in how to make some of the simpler designs, and while the sewing machines are humming and the knitting needles are clicking, we’ll also be discussing the environment and the impact that the textile industry has on it.
And there will be snacks! (Many thanks to Friends of Liberty State Park for providing!)
Q. How can I participate?
Register by clicking here or write to Woolpunk at woolpunkstudios@gmail.com. Or just show up on March 10.
Q. Should I bring my own sewing machine?
Yes, please. And any other tools you would normally use for sewing, knitting, patching etc. But there will be extra equipment and supplies at the Terminal.
Q. What other kinds of donations are needed?
1. Yarn for baby blankets, beanies and socks.
Q. Where can I drop off craft items, used clothing or textiles?
Drop off bins are available at either the Liberty State Park Office, located at 200 Morris Pesin Drive, open 7 days a week 8am-4pm, or the CRRNJ Terminal, located at 1 Audrey Zapp Drive, open Mon-Fri, 8am-4pm.
Q. What about parking?
The CRRNJ Terminal is located at 1 Audrey Zapp Drive – there is free parking in lots 8 & 9 for Stitch-In participants.
Lot 9 is the 2-hour smaller lot at the very end of the Drive on the left side (NOT the lot for the Marina or Liberty House).
Lot 8 is just before the brick gate houses on the right side of Audrey Zapp Drive – it has a ticket gate. Bring your ticket to the Terminal for validation and free parking.
